About the Artist
Miami-based artists, Alejandra Collazos, born in Hollywood, Florida in 2000, has been honing their skills in portraiture throughout their schooling at New World School of The Arts, where they will receive their Bachelors degree in Fine Arts in 2023.
She established an early interest in art growing up which led them to pursue their love for creating throughout their life.
Being inspired by the artist’s and makers in their family, they have explored many realms of art, including music, stitchwork, digital art, and traditional art mediums.
While in art school, they developed their love for portrait realism as the intense diligence of portrait work allowed them to fall into a meditative workspace to subdue their anxiety.
Inspired by their mother’s craft of sewing, she later decided to venture out of the borders of flat drawing by combining their love for sewing work with their graphite drawings, using fabric as substrate and creating soft sculpture as well as the occasional use of medical suture material.
